Glossary
A single reference for the vocabulary that runs through the platform. Where a term has a dedicated article, it's linked.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Actor | A tracked entity — a state, faction, organisation, or asset — that the platform attributes activity to and accrues a record for over time. See Actors & Territory. |
| Alias | An alternate name a source uses for an actor; a complete alias list sharpens automatic attribution. |
| Alert | A notification raised when something matching an AOI or watchlist enters the picture. |
| Analyst Review Queue | The triage surface where well-corroborated items await a human confirm/reject/escalate decision. See the queue. |
| AOI (Area of Interest) | A drawn region the platform watches on your behalf, raising alerts when activity falls inside it. |
| Battlespace | The scoped container for one situation — actors, events, intel, and annotations in one place. In Health it's called an Outbreak. See Battlespaces. |
| Causal graph | A node-link view of how events, intel, and actors relate by cause and effect. See the causal graph. |
| Cluster | A group of intel items judged to describe the same real-world event; its size is the corroboration signal. |
| Confidence Matrix | A workspace for structured assessments scored across multiple confidence dimensions. See Other Panels. |
| Corroboration | Independent sources reporting the same event — the platform's strongest credibility signal. |
| Coverage gap | An area whose reporting has gone quieter than its history predicts — a possible blackout, access denial, or source decay. See Coverage & Gaps. |
| Credibility tier | The rung a cluster has climbed (REPORT → INDICATOR → CREDIBLE → NEAR-CONFIRMED → CONFIRMED). See Credibility & Validity. |
| Deception flag | A marker that a cluster shows signs of coordinated manipulation; a confirmed flag caps its credibility. See Deception Flags. |
| ESC code | The five-position Event Symbology Code summarising an event (actor, event-type, domain, target, status). See ESC Codes & Symbology. |
| Escalation signature | A known sequence of events that historically precedes escalation; matches are flagged. See Escalation & Predictions. |
| Event | A confirmed occurrence with a time and place, usually built from several corroborating intel items. See Events. |
| Focus mode | Narrowing the map to a single battlespace, hiding everything else. |
| Force vector | An arrow showing the direction and pace at which an actor's centre of activity is shifting. |
| Hypothesis register | Where candidate explanations are tracked, evidence attached, and a verdict set. See the Investigation Workbench manual. |
| Influence vs control | An actor's influence is where it holds sway; its control is where its units physically are. |
| Intel item | A single piece of source material after it's been normalised into the platform's common shape. |
| Intelligence Products | Finished, classification-marked outputs you produce and disseminate. See Other Panels. |
| Investigation | A saved, reproducible line of analysis. See Investigations. |
| Provenance / evidence chain | The preserved trail from a conclusion back to the evidence that supports it. |
| Replay | Scrubbing back through how a situation developed over time. See Replay. |
| Validity score | A 0–1 trust score for an individual item, blending source reliability, corroboration, recency, geographic precision, and analyst verification. |
| Watchlist | A list of actors or subjects the platform flags incoming intel against. |
| Workbench | The operational domain you're in — Conflict, Health, or Disaster. See Choosing a Workbench. |
